seattleSeattle, Washington is known for its booming tech industry and its natural beauty filled with lush forests and parks. It also hosts interesting attractions like the Seattle Space Needle, dog-friendly restaurants, and a multitude of coffee shops and burgeoning craft brewery scene. Seattle also offers people great choices for work and education. The unemployment rate in Seattle is very low, so for those looking to push forward their careers, it’s an ideal city to move to.  Big companies such as Amazon and Microsoft have headquarters here so the opportunities are endless.

Here we list the 5 things you should know before relocating to Seattle with your family:

1) The Weather

Seattle is one of those cities that experiences changing weather during all four seasons. It is no secret that Seattle has steady rainfall throughout much of the year. The rain mostly comes through the mist and a light drizzle. Locals prefer to use hooded rain jackets to keep dry than carrying around an umbrella all day.  It is important to invest in parkas, raincoats, boots and other suitable clothing for Seattle weather.  Seattle was built on hills so your hiking boots will come to great use because of all that uphill traveling. Use them also when you visit the Seattle parks that boast of fascinating nature trips and mountain treks. The summers are pleasantly sunny and dry with bright blue skies fit for shorts and flip flops. The winters are cool with light snowfall so pack some extra sweaters to stay warm.

2) The Places to Stay

There are many housing options to choose from if you’re moving to Seattle with your family.  Get in touch with the best Seattle movers who will help transport your valuables to your new home. The city offers apartments and condominiums downtown or houses that are ideal for families further north. If you love the water, East Lake also provides a selection of houseboats. The cost of living can be pricey, so it is essential to research prices of homes before making any big decisions.

3) The Community

Seattle is known for its eclectic neighborhoods that offer a variety of interesting activities to do for everyone. Bring your bike, because the city is full of biking trails and lanes and scheduled activities for cyclists. Visit Capitol Hill for its restaurants and bars, Fremont for its quirky shops and art. There are a number of activities suitable for the entire family like visiting the Seattle Center, which is home to the famous Space Needle, together with the Armory, Key Arena and McCaw Hall. Ride in the Seattle Great Wheel, which is a giant Ferris wheel found along Pier 57.  Explore Belltown, to shop through the Pike Place Market or visit the Seattle Asian Art Museum and the magnificent Green Lake.

4) The Cuisine

Seattle is the place to be if you are a seafood lover. Visit an array of seafood restaurants that offer the local fare of salmon, oysters, clams, shrimp, and lobster. The International District in Seattle features some of the best Chinese, Thai and Indian dishes. Another thing that is very popular in the Seattle area is the farmers markets. The best way to get outside, get some fresh local produce and support local businesses. There is definitely something for everyone’s palate.

5) The Night Life

Listen and dance to the best live music featured in a dazzling array of venues along Pioneer Square or spend an evening at one of the city’s many waterfront bars. Capitol Hill is also home to some of the most LGBT friendly nightclubs in the country.
