3 HVAC Emergencies and Their Causes

air filter replacementAlmost anything can go wrong with your HVAC system. If your system is outdated, overworked, or needs replacement parts, an emergency is waiting to happen. What’s worse is many things can go wrong with your heating and cooling unit that can cause it to become totally inoperable. If something is off with your HVAC system, it may work harder than it was designed to as it tries to still reach your desired indoor temperature. An overworked unit in extreme temperatures can quickly become an emergency. Continue reading to discover three HVAC emergencies and their causes.

1. Failure To Come On or Turn Off

When your unit fails to operate, it’s time to hire a professional. Many things can cause your HVAC unit to not turn on or not turn off, including wear and tear, a broken thermostat, or broken parts. For example, if your condenser stops working (a main component of your HVAC unit), it will require emergency services. Additionally, without a working compressor, your unit will fail to operate.

Thermostat issues are the number one reason your unit fails to operate. If the thermostat fails to operate, your HVAC unit has no connectivity. While you’re shopping for a new thermostat, it’s important that you pay attention to new and energy-efficient technology that might be compatible with your current HVAC model.

2. Frozen Unit or Frozen Coils

A frozen unit requires immediate professional services. Many homeowners are not prepared for the counterintuitive problems they face with a frozen air conditioner. In fact, it will also leave your home occupants left in the unbearable sticky heat. When your house isn’t reaching the desired thermostat setting, this is one cause for alarm.

However, if you believe you have a frozen evaporator coil, you should stop using your unit immediately because it damages the compressor causing the system to completely go out. On rare occasions, homeowners can defrost their unit, but it’s best to have a professional inspect your HVAC system.

3. Nonexistent Airflow

If your unit doesn’t have airflow, this is an HVAC emergency. You will need serious repairs if you find out your unit isn’t providing airflow. Without the proper heat and airflow, your home occupants could be left feeling uncomfortable. Don’t get stuck without airflow; enlist the help of the professionals.

What to Look For in an HVAC Repair Company

When you’re looking for an emergency HVAC repair company, it’s imperative to know what to look for in an expert. You always want to hire someone licensed to protect your investment. The proper certification means they have the expertise to work exclusively with all brand and custom name models. Their level of expertise and experience is also very important. You’ll always want to hire someone with years of experience in your local community.

An HVAC professional should also provide fast and courteous service. A professional repair expert will always try to avoid disrupting your home life. More importantly, you should look for 24/7 services because you never know when an emergency will happen. If you’re experiencing an HVAC emergency, contact your licensed local professionals today!

If our furnace freezes over, it could really be bad for the winter season as we’ll lose the source of warmth we rely on. That’s something I could use some help with, especially since filters and furnace parts can be really complicated to try and fix without any kind of training. I’ll take your advice and make sure I know of a local HVAC contractor I can call in case we need some help.

Another emergency that requires immediate fix is leaking freon. Freon is a lethal, toxic substance, and if freon leaks, it can be quite dangerous. It can result in death simply from inhaling the substance.
Due to the toxic nature of freon leaks, they should always be handled by HVAC professionals, but it’s the homeowner’s job to be aware of the signs of a freon leak.

Dirty filters can also be the cause of restricted airflow. So try to replace them first and see the difference.

Please remember to replace the air filters of your HVAC system regularly:
    1) to help your HVAC system work efficiently and smoothly
    2) to improve indoor air quality

These are very unpleasant situations! I try not to run the technique to the point where it is no longer able to work, but you can’t always predict this. Recently I needed a service for kitchen dishwasher repair, and it’s good that I always have contacts of good specialists in mind. For any problems with appliance repair, I only address them, since the service is time-tested, and I always know that they will do everything efficiently and quickly!
