6 Useful Items That You Need To Pack With You When Traveling With Your Dog

pet travelTraveling with your dog can be a fun experience. However, before you take off on your trip, make sure to pack all of the items that you need for both yourself and your pup! Here are six items that you will want to have in order to have a successful road trip.

A Bed

It’s essential that your dog is comfortable while sleeping, and even more so when you’re on the road. Make sure to find the best bed for your fur baby and bring it with you on your travels. There are a few different types of beds that would work well while traveling: a small bed designed for travel, a large bed that can be placed in the backseat or cargo area of your car, or a portable bed that you can take with you wherever you go. Whichever type of bed you choose, make sure to test it out at home before hitting the road. This will ensure that your dog is comfortable and safe while sleeping during your trip.

If possible, try to find a pet-friendly hotel where your furry friend can sleep in his or her own bed without having to worry about noise or other disturbances. If this isn’t an option, ask the hotel if they have any rooms that are designated as pet-friendly.

A Leash

Dogs are impulsive and tend to run towards anything that interests them, which can be a safety hazard when you’re out and about. That’s why it’s important to have a leash with you at all times when traveling with your furry friend.

Leashes come in a variety of materials and styles, so it’s important to choose one that is comfortable for both you and your dog. Nylon leashes are typically the most popular type due to their durability and flexibility. They also tend to be less expensive than other materials such as leather.

When choosing a leash, make sure to consider the size of your dog. A six-foot leash should work well for most dogs, but if your pet is particularly large or small, then you may need a different length. And don’t forget a buckle or snap clip to attach the leash to your dog’s collar!

Treats

To keep your dog behaved, you should bring treats with you when traveling. This will help to keep your dog happy and occupied during the trip. There are many different types of treats that are available for your dog. You can bring some that you know and love, or treats that are new to try out with them when traveling. Here are some ideas for what to bring:

  • Beef jerky treats
  • Dried fruit
  • Peanut butter-filled bones
  • Cheese
  • Biscuits

Treats make great rewards during training sessions when they come in different shapes and sizes depending on their chewing habits.

Chew Toys

To keep your furry friend occupied, chew toys are a great way to pass the time. Some chew toys can even help with your dog’s dental hygiene, which is always important when traveling.

When choosing chew toys for your pup, it’s best not to opt for their regular everyday chew toy because they may become bored of it since you won’t be around to play with them as often. Instead, choose something new that they’ve never seen before. This will keep them entertained and engaged while you’re away.

There are a variety of chew toys on the market, so it shouldn’t be difficult to find one that your dog will love.

A Water Bowl

Never let the dog dehydrate, especially when on the go. Bring a water bowl to make sure they always have access to water. This is essential, especially in the summertime! There are collapsible water bowls available on the market, so there is no excuse not to have one with you.

And if you’re really worried about your dog being without water, bring along a water bottle for them as well! Just make sure that they can drink easily from it. Some dogs prefer running water over still water, so take that into account when packing.

A First-aid Kit

Dogs can get hurt while traveling just like a human can. It is a good idea to bring a first-aid kit with you while your dog travels in the car or by plane so that if he gets hurt, there are supplies around for him.

You should have items such as gauze pads and bandages on hand, hydrogen peroxide (to induce vomiting), tweezers, cotton balls, saline solution/eye wash cup, a muzzle of some sort depending on what type of injury it is that needs treatment, thermometer (if needed), scissors and an antibiotic ointment available at all times when you travel with a pet.

Traveling with dogs doesn’t have to be as challenging and as long as your dog has somewhere to sleep, you’re halfway there. Make sure to bring a leash so they don’t run around and bring them treats to lure them back. Bring a few chew toys to keep them occupied and a water bowl so they don’t get thirsty. Finally, a first-aid kit will allow your dog to remain healthy. Have fun!
