Even with the best intentions, life has a way of getting away from you. Even when it seems like you’re carving out time to do the things you enjoy, there’s a moment where you realize that months or even years have passed, and you really haven’t progressed very far. That’s not to say you haven’t excelled professionally or in your private life, but when it comes to the relationship you have with yourself, you might feel like you’re not getting enough out of life.
Create a Bucket List
The first step in feeling like you’re making the most out of life is by doing what you really want to do. Far too often, we sit and daydream about all the things we would do if we could. If this sounds like you, you need to ask yourself why you aren’t taking action. Create a list of all the things you want to experience in life. Since this list is personal, there is no right or wrong. Think about how you can start scratching each I’ve off your list. If you always wanted to learn a foreign language, how can you make that happen? The goal is to start with the smallest want and work your way to the end of your list. You’ll be surprised how motivated you feel once you start doing and stop dreaming.
Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
In a world where everyone seems to have their act together, especially online, it’s easy to feel intimidated. After all, isn’t everyone on social media living their best life? If you do only this, you need to stop comparing yourself to others. Everyone’s on their own journey, so if you didn’t earn a degree you wanted in your twenties, there’s nothing stopping you now. If cost is a concern, you should research whether getting a student loan through a private lender is right for you. In most cases, you’ll find the repayment terms more favorable and you might even pay less interest in the long run.
Protect Your Peace
Toxic behavior comes in many forms. It can be an irate co-worker or a partner who just doesn’t have your best interest at heart. Over time, toxicity can steal away precious moments of happiness. Regardless of the source, you need to find ways to rid your life of relationships or situations that strap your joy. There is a stigma around professional mental health help but for many, therapy is critical and helps them stay balanced. This might be a good avenue to explore if you like the idea of an outside and objective perspective on some of the potentially toxic elements of your life.
Eat Healthy
Enjoying your favorite snack food is perfectly okay in moderation. As a matter a fact, it’s recommended to indulge in life’s simple pleasures. However, you also need to eat as healthy as possible to give your body and mind the energy they both need. Eating poorly can leave you feeling sluggish and tired, which means you won’t have the energy you need to live an active lifestyle.
Wake Up Earlier
After a long week, who doesn’t want to sleep in? As tempting as that is, it’s actually better if you wake up earlier. It’s these extra hours where you can spend time doing what you enjoy. It also allows you time to think about where you want to be in the future. Do you see yourself doing the same thing in 10 years? If the answer is no, then you can find ways to change the life you’re currently living.
