Breathe Deep, Breathe Easy: How to Improve Your Home’s Environment

airflowMindfulness is more than just being calm. It means being relaxed and safe. Your home should be where mindfulness is best practiced in your life, but clutter, grime, and disrepair can add a level of stress to your day to day that can be difficult to escape from.

That is why, for the same of your health and the health of your family, you will want to follow this guide to improve your home’s emotional and physical environment:

Declutter and Free Your Mind

Decluttering is going to provide the most significant impact on the health and wellness of your home. Go through everything and determine whether it is useful or valued in your life. If it fits neither category, then it needs to go.

Recycle it, donate it, or even sell it if necessary, but you need to go through and actually know what you have and that everything that is around you has a benefit to your life.

Take Tally of Issues as They Arise

While going through your home, you will also want to inspect it. Pay attention to corners, appliances, your air ducts, ventilation system, and roof. Make a note of any damp, mildew, mold, swelling, and other abnormalities.

This includes checking systems even if you do not need to use them yet. Turn on your air conditioning and check all vents to make sure that the air is coming out the way it is supposed to.

If there is an issue, then you will need to hire a repair and maintenance company like Kaiser Air Conditioning, heating, and sheet metal who can repair any issues or even upgrade your system entirely, depending on what your home needs.

When to Hire, When to Use Elbow Grease

Deep cleaning can help anyone breathe easily, but not all tasks are suitable for a DIY attempt. Carpets, upholstery, and mattresses should be deep cleaned at least once a year by professionals. You cannot do this yourself, not because the task is inherently difficult or dangerous, but because you do not have the professional-grade cleaning equipment necessary.

Areas you can tackle yourself are where wiping down and cleaning are all that is needed. Your fridge, your air filters (which often just need a replacement), the walls, and of course, clutter can all be done on your own.

Update the Design

Now that your home is fully operational cleaned to its deepest foundations, and clutter-free, you are in a great position to update the design.

Paint Your Home

Paint the home colors that soothe you, that bring out the best in you, and simply that look great. White walls can suit some, but for those who love color, they just will not do. Always plan your color combinations out in advance, however, to ensure that the choices you make are long-term.

Improve Natural Elements

Use natural elements like woods, metals, and of course, plant life to make your home feel warmer and more vibrant. Plants do wonders for our emotional health and are great company in any home.

Bring the Light In

Dark rooms can be brightened by using reflective surfaces and mirrors to scatter the light from outdoors throughout your home. Natural light is key to improving our sleep cycles and can help us feel alert and happy.

You can drastically improve your home’s environment just by replacing air conditioner from time to time. Actually, it’s an important job that many people overlook. A filter in an average home lasts around 90 days, but there are a number of factors that impact whether you will need to change the filter more or less often than that. Read about them in this article: https://polestarplumbing.com/news-media/clean-air-should-be-a-priority.
