tips for a happy relationshipYour home should feel like a sanctuary.

No one wants to dread coming home after a long day at work. Nothing is worse than finishing up your eight-hour shift just to come home to another few hours of housework waiting for you.

There is no feeling like knowing you have a peaceful home environment waiting for you when you step in the door. But how do you create that relaxing and calm atmosphere? There are a lot of steps you can take to ensure your home is a place you want to retreat to after a long and stressful day.

Read on for some of the best tips for creating an atmosphere you are proud to call your home.

Benefits of a Peaceful Home

The benefits of having a peaceful house are plentiful.

A relaxing environment will help to improve your mood and bring positive energy into your home. You’ll likely feel less stressed and that you’re able to focus better throughout your day. You’ll sleep better because your mind, body, and soul are all able to feel more relaxed. You might even notice that you’re feeling more harmony between yourself and the others who live in your home.

There are no downsides to choosing to invite a more peaceful feeling into your home. But how do you do it? Read on for a few simple tips that can help make your home into a sanctuary fast.

1. Declutter

A cluttered home is a recipe for disaster. Being surrounded by a mess all day can lead to a host of uncomfortable feelings. You’re going to feel excessively stimulated by your surroundings which will make it very hard for you to relax. You may feel anxious by your items that don’t have a home.  You won’t be able to find things that you’re searching for when you need them. There is just no winning when it comes to having a cluttered home.

So, what can you do combat clutter? There are entire books written about the art of decluttering, but here are two quick tips.

Take it one room at a time. Start with the place you spend the most time. You may wish to start with one small section of the room instead of trying to tackle the entire thing at once. If you’re starting in the kitchen, for example, focus first on your pantry before anywhere else.

Organize your belongings into three separate piles. Label these piles Keep, Donate, and Toss. As you go through each room, ask yourself when was the last time you used each item. If you haven’t used it in years and it’s still in good shape, throw it in the donate pile. If it’s ready for the garbage dump, put it in the toss pile.

If you’re not prepared to cut ties with the item just yet, keep it.

2. Have a Dedicated Junk Zone

Completely decluttering your space may not be possible. If you can’t completely lean into the minimalist method just yet, you need to have a dedicated space for your junk. It might look like a classic junk drawer in your kitchen or china cabinet, or maybe you’ll have a fancy basket on your countertop.

Whatever way you slice it, having a dedicated space for the random items that make its way into your home is a surefire way to keep your mind clear.

3. Color Matters

The colors you choose to paint and decorate your rooms with can have a very real effect on your moods. Every color has a psychological value that should be thought about before you bring it into your home.

Neutral colors like greys, browns, and whites can increase feelings of calmness and relaxation. Believe it or not, green is another great color choice to help improve the tranquility in your home. Green is the color of nature and can help you to feel grounded and relaxed when used appropriately.

4. Bring in Some Greenery

Speaking of green, you need to invest in plants if you’re serious about upping the tranquility level of your home.

House plants can clear up to 87% of your air toxins in just 24 hours according to a study from NASA. Certain toxins in your air can cause adverse health effects that you’re going to want to avoid. Having plants take out these dangerous toxins can literally help you breath easier, adding to the relaxation effect of your home.

Large houseplants that take up a lot of surface area can help to reduce distracting background noises. If you live in a noisy neighborhood, prepare to reap the sound of silence in no time when you invest in houseplants.

Plants can be a part of your peaceful home decor in any room of the house, but they’re especially useful in your bedroom. Add a houseplant to your bedside table, and you may be able to sleep better. Options like aloe vera, lavender, and chamomile have properties that may help with your sleep quality.

5. Research Hygge

“Hygge” is a Norwegian word that means “well-being.” It acts as both a noun, something you can feel or taste, and a verb, something you do.

When it comes to your home, hygge means bringing in a sense of coziness and warmth. Using the hygge method will contribute to the feeling of a relaxing home. Light some candles for ambiance. Invest in some high-quality throw blankets for comfort. If you’re committed, purchase a fireplace for inside your home or a propane one for outside. Gather around the fire every night with your family and a big mug of tea, coffee, or hot cocoa.

6. Invest in the Right Decor

We already know that a cluttered space spells terrible news for any peaceful home vibes. But investing in the right type of decor without going overboard can add some tranquility to your home.

Furniture like a hanging chair for your patio can add a lot of comfort to your space. Choose something that gives you a place to hang out on your days off

If you’re a reader, creating a book nook can be a beautiful sanctuary to bring you both relaxation and tranquility at once.

You don’t have to spend a fortune in new decor or furniture for your home. Websites like the Dealwiki coupon site have great deals on already affordable home goods.
