You don’t have to be morbid to make your own bucket list, it’s simply a list of great, once in a lifetime, things you simply have to do at some point. Whether you actually write down your bucket list on a piece of paper, or store it in your head, one of the most common things people choose for their list are spectacular holidays. Las Vegas, Paris, and New York are regular bucket list choices, but there’s one location that’s even more spectacular: The Dead Sea. Here are just three of the reasons you should visit this unique world treasure.

A Truly Unique Experience

A bucket list activity should be truly unique, one that you couldn’t do anywhere else in the world, and a visit to the Dead Sea is exactly that. This large lake lies upon the border between Israel and Jordan and it has two claims to fame that you won’t find anywhere else on the globe. Firstly, at an elevation of 400 metres below sea level, it’s the lowest point on any land mass in any continent. Secondly, and perhaps most famously, it’s high salt content means that you can simply float on the surface with no effort whatsoever, and if you join the many tourists who float there, you’ll be astounded at the spectacular scenery that stretches away before you. It’s also said by many that the waters have healing properties.

Incredible History

The Dead Sea is not only the world’s best place to relax; if you prefer to exercise your brain while on vacation, there are a wide variety of historical sites just a short drive away. Jerusalem is sacred to people of three major religions, and once seen, it’s a city that’s never forgotten. Another must see excursion is to the ancient fortress of Masada. This UNESCO World Heritage Site was built by Herod the Great it was put under siege by the Romans in around 73AD, leading to a tragic end for everyone within it. Nevertheless, it’s a destination like no other, and the elevated views it offers across the surrounding deserts is impossible to beat.

Luxurious Hotels

The Dead Sea may be situated close to deserts, but that certainly doesn’t mean that you have to forego luxury while you visit it. The location is designed with tourists in mind, and there are a number of amazing Dead Sea hotels to choose from, whatever your budget. There’s something for everybody, from romantic hotels that make a great honeymoon destination, to spa hotels with a wide range of rejuvenating treatments available, and family hotels that provide a varied range of activities that your children will love. Many of them are built on the shores of the Dead Sea itself, so you’ll be just a short stroll away from its incredible waters.

With luxury and history sitting side by side, it’s no surprise that increasing numbers of people from the UK and beyond are discovering the delights of the Dead Sea resorts. Its perfect climate all year round is another of its attractions, and it has regular transport links to airports in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. No bucket list would be complete without a Dead Sea vacation upon it!
