Mobility Aids: The Best Options for Each Category

mobility aidsPeople are not built to operate at peak level forever. While the body has an impressive array of healing properties, the wear and tear of living will inevitably diminish our mobility as we grow older. This has been an observed fact of life for thousands of years, reflected in part by the answer to the Riddle of the Sphinx: “Which creature walks on four legs, then two, then three?”

(Answer: man)

With this in mind, reduced mobility due to injury or old age is nothing to feel ashamed about. Our eventual decrepitude is a price paid for the chance at adventure during our peak physical years. If signs point to the need for a mobility aid, don’t put off the purchase any longer. Improving mobility means regaining some of that lost adventure, so why wait?

Better yet, why settle for a substandard mobility aid when affordable high-end options exist? These “Cadillac of” scooters, wheelchairs, walkers, et cetera provide the best in improved mobility:

Motorized Scooter

When it comes to improved mobility, few options provide as much range, speed, and access as a motorized scooter. Yet not all motorized scooters are created equal. Ranking at the top of the list in terms of quality, reliability, and features is the Quingo Flyte found at QuingoUSA.com and their site serving Europe. The Flyte features a unique five wheel design, top speed of 4mph, and a range potential of 34 miles with a battery extension pack. However, the most advanced feature of the Quingo Flyte is undoubtedly its ability to drive itself in and out of a vehicle, vastly improving its functional mobility. Check out information on the best light weight scooters for seniors.

Traditional Wheelchair

The next best thing to a motorized scooter is a very nice wheelchair. All things considered, it doesn’t get much nicer than the Karman S-ERGO Lightweight Wheelchair. Clocking in at just under 30 lbs., the design lives up to the name. Comfortable and easy to remove seat and back cushions are anti-bacterial, making cleaning and maintenance a cinch. In addition, Karman Health offers a magnesium alloy rear wheel upgrade complete with silver spokes to go along with the S-ERGO.

Rollator Walker

For those generally able to get around on two feet but who still require some mobility assistance, a rollator walker is the way to go. The best of the best of rollator walker options is the Hugo Elite, which features a highly rated cushioned seat for when taking a break is needed on the go. Weighing in at 10 lbs, the Hugo Elite also includes an under the seat saddle bag and 8-inch wheels to vastly improve storage and stability.

Knee Scooter

A temporary injury or permanent disability involving only one leg is an annoyance more than anything. Whether it’s a broken leg or a bum knee, improving mobility calls for a knee scooter, which serves as a vast improvement over standard crutches. If shopping around for one, look no further than the All Terrain Steerable KneeRover sold online. As the name suggests, it’s functional on dirt, grass, gravel, and deeply cracked sidewalks. 12-inch pneumatic tires provide unrivaled support while tie-rod steering provides superior maneuverability.

Walking Stick

Lastly, we arrive at the classic cane. No mobility aid is as straightforward as a walking stick, but that doesn’t mean they can’t come with a few bells and whistles included. Such is the case with the EECOO Lightweight Self-Standing Walking Stick featuring a four-prong base and second handle for added support. In addition to these features, this choice of walking stick includes six built-in LED lights for added safety while moving in poorly lit conditions. Furthermore, this self-standing cane can be folded for easy transport and storage.

The human body is not built to last indefinitely. With that said, you have to admire its tenacity in the face of injury and disability. However, when all natural methods of compensating for diminished mobility have been exhausted, the next best option is to rely on a mobility aid. Regardless of which particular aid is chosen, ensuring it functions is no doubt key. And if it can perform above and beyond expectations, that’s even better.
