3 Ways to Get Substance Abuse Counseling Without Insurance

abuse counselingQualifying for and purchasing medical insurance has become more complicated over the past decade, leaving many people without the coverage they need or perpetually in danger of losing it at a moment’s notice. Even if you are accustomed to paying for most of your medical needs out of pocket, trying to fund the cost of counseling for substance abuse on your own will likely be out of the question. In order to make your attempt at recovery successful, you will need to remain in therapy for as long as it takes you to break the cycle. If money or insurance coverage is a major concern, use these three suggestions to get into substance abuse therapy quickly and begin your life anew.

1. Seek Sliding Scale Substance Abuse Recovery Programs

There are many professionals in social work and substance abuse with a list of recovery programs that accept low-income patients. If you can show that your income is not substantial, a sliding scale fee may be quite affordable. In some instances, incoming patients with no income or substantial financial obligations can be awarded scholarships and grants that result in no out of pocket costs to them.  Even quality organizations like HARP Palm Beach treatment center help with financing.

2. Look for Help via a Charitable Organization

If you need help to stop abusing substances, a charity may be the answer. Many organizations can help you to raise funds that are necessary for completing comprehensive substance abuse recovery programs. Some programs will even allow you to get the help that you need if you don’t have the entire amount to pay for it upfront if you have a charity that is willing to vouch for you. Ultimately, if you express your desire to recover and you can show that you are genuine, a great deal of support is available.

3. Ask Other Recovered Substance Abusers for Assistance

Others have been in your shoes before, with many of them going through non-traditional means in order to afford the full cost of recovery. Ask them for help so that you can find out how you can check into a treatment program and no longer have to fight the temptations of substance addiction on your own. The longer that you go without counseling and treatment, the more long term side effects of substance abuse you will face. Consider how much more fulfilling your life will be when you don’t have the pressure of doing everything on your own.

There are those with substance abuse problems who are able to make a single phone call, pack their bags, and get around the clock help, without so much as a second thought. Unfortunately, many substance abusers do not have medical insurance or the support of a close inner circle. But, this doesn’t mean that you cannot have the same type of positive outcome as someone with comprehensive health insurance.

There are government funded insurance programs that you might be able to sign up for as well as community-based drug treatment programs designed to help people who are in dire need of counseling, but no money to even cover the co-pay amount. Reach out, get the help you need and start living a drug-free existence.
